In 1996, funding for the Riverton Senior Citizens Center became a reality with the passage of the optional 1% sales tax. The project was subsequently designed and built in 1997. The design required fitting the facility’s parking lot and its associated drainage into a very constrained site while preventing storm water from flowing onto adjacent properties. Because the facility is heavily used by people with physical disabilities, the project had to stringently comply with ADA requirements. This was an added challenge given the site’s constrained space but yet appreciable elevation changes. All patrons can easily access the building and its parking. The sidewalks and parking lot are free of any areas that pond water that could freeze and present slip hazards.

The parking and drainage improvements were estimated at $132,000. The project was completed on schedule and under budget.
