OWNER: City of Evanston/Uinta County Wyoming
DATE: 2001
SERVICES PROVIDED:
Summary: James Gores and Associates was retained as a subconsultant by Washington Airport Services, Inc. of Littleton, Colorado, for the design of improvements to the Evanston-Uinta County Airport in Wyoming. Plans and specifications were assembled in 2001.
Design of Site Drainage: Part of the improvements to the airport was the design of site drainage for an area with soils that persistently experienced severe erosion. The airport sits upon a ridge overlooking Evanston, Wyoming. With the highly erodable soil that is on the site, previous runoff from the site resulted in the development of deep erosion gullies running down from the airport. The new construction at the airport added to the erosion potential since a much larger area of the ridge was being disturbed and regraded. James Gores and Associates, after calculating the runoff for a 100-year, 24-hour storm event, designed a system of embankment protection structures, piping, catch basins, rock gabion blankets, and energy dissipater structures to dispense of the runoff and control erosion. The firm also prepared the required construction stormwater permit applications required by DEQ.
Design of Game Fencing: With the expansion of the airport, new perimeter game fencing was required including some modification to the existing fencing. James Gores and Associates laid out the new fencing and modifications to existing fencing. The fencing included the required gates, game jumps, and other customary appurtenances.
Design of Utility Relocation: With the new construction at the airport, the waterline and buried power cable to the VOR that serve the airport required relocation. James Gores and Associates designed the relocation of these utilities as well as a livestock waterline to an adjacent property.
Pavement Design: Part of James Gores and Associates’ responsibility was to design the pavement sections for the new taxiway and runway surfaces. Both asphalt and concrete surfaces were evaluated. The design was subsequently approved by the FAA.
Preparation of DBE Goals: FAA required that the federally mandated project specific Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Goals be established for this project. James Gores and Associates prepared the required goal modifications requested by FAA.
