The old asbestos cement and ductile iron waterlines in Meeteetse were long overdue for replacement. The existing lines, in past years, were showing the age and rate of deterioration with repeated waterline breaks and other recurring maintenance problems. The Town determined that it would be more cost efficient to replace these lines than to sustain the continued and increasing costs of maintenance of these lines.  These old lines served a majority of the Town of Meeteetse.

PER/Funding Assistance: James Gores and Associates assisted the Town in obtaining funding from USDA-RUS for the project by doing the necessary Preliminary Engineering Report, which included concept development and requirements analysis.
Design: This project consisted of replacing approximately 1044 feet of 8-inch and 10,300 6-inch waterlines with new PVC mains and reconnecting the water service lines. The design had to take into account the very close quarters to other existing utilities and buildings. The alleyways were only 20 feet wide on average. These narrow alleys contained the water and sewer mains, gas lines, power (overhead and underground), telephone, and cable TV. To limit inconvenience to the citizens, temporary water service was maintained during project construction.
Regulatory Permitting: Upon completion of design, the Department of Environmental Quality “Permit to Construct” was obtained for construction of the replacement water system.
Construction Monitoring:  Our firm conducted the bidding and award of the project. We then provided full time on site construction monitoring to assure that the town was given the quality job they expected.

The original construction budget was $1,016,092.00, and construction was completed for $1,038,081.06. The added 2% amount provides several additional upgrades to the town’s water system that were completed while the contractor was onsite, allowing those upgrades to be installed at a lower cost to the town.
